Which is fine, but if you don't know Lily Orchard from a bar of soap, then this is meaningless to you. That's not writing advice, that's not even criticism, that's just you shouting your own personal preference. ![]() most of it is just her own personal taste? Like, number 3 on the list is 'friends to lovers is always better than enemies to lovers'. But I'm going to use it for myself and I'm going to use it for some of my characters, because I'm drawing on my own experiences and the experiences of my dear queer friends, and her argument for why I can't or shouldn't doesn't hold water. I understand that a lot of lgbtq+ people don't like that word and I respect that. Queer is my preferred term for my sexual identity. Relatedly, a lot of the tips were less writing tips and more "I'm mad about She-Ra," "I'm mad about Steven Universe." Okay, you didn't like the way executed, fine, that doesn't mean that sort of plot point is completely off-limits for everybody! There are millions of great stories out there, and "you should write the exact story that I want to read" is not an argument. But that doesn't mean it's the best way for every situation! Friends-to-lovers is one good trope, but I don't know why it should be held up as best over rivals-to-lovers, enemies-to-lovers, etc. ![]() I would like to see more love triangles end with polyamory. Lily Orchard primarily does critique of episodic animated TV, and while there's some cross-over between advice that's good for writing episodic animated TV and advice that's good for writing novels and short stories, a lot of the advice is really "this is how to write the kind of episodic animated TV I want to watch." Okay, fine, but I'm not writing episodic animated TV. not even actionable advice for the vast majority of writers. Most of the tweets struck me as not so much wrong-headed as just. ![]()
